Teens Can Baby-sit
Teens can babysit to earn money and this can be a great way for a teen to gain experience dealing with responsibility. If you are a teen and want to earn money this way, you must realize the fact that you are taking on responsibility for children and be prepared for anything that could happen. Anyone babysitting must have emergency numbers beside the telephone. If 9-1-1 is available in your area, that provides a means of reaching the police, fire department and ambulance in an emergency but many rural areas do not have this service. The important numbers should be listed clearly in large numbers beside each telephone so that you can locate them quickly even if you are upset whenever you are babysitting children. Teens can babysit as long as they have the telephone numbers to reach the parents in the case of illness or emergency. The cell phone numbers or beeper numbers of the parents should be placed beside each telephone in the house. If the parents are not carrying a cell phone or beeper, then a telephone number as well as address of where the parents will be while away from home should be available. The contact numbers for a responsible adult that can provide advice to you while babysitting is mandatory. Insist that the parents of the children provide this information before leaving home. Teens can babysit children, but unless you are experienced it is not a good idea to babysit a tiny infant. Of course, you may have gained a lot of experience with infants because of having a sister or brother that you helped with when they were tiny. Don't assume that caring for an infant is the same as caring for a toddler or older child. Infants can not communicate and it can be difficult to determine if something is seriously wrong when they won't stop crying. Teens can babysit but should not plan to babysit unless the parents of the child or children are willing to drive them home when they have finished sitting. Unless you happen to live next door to the home where you are babysitting, you should never walk home alone late at night. If the parents are not willing to plan to drive you home or escort you home, don't babysit unless your own parents are willing to come pick you up. It is too dangerous to walk home late at night, even if you are a boy that is babysitting. Don't take chances with your safety!
