There are actually several different types of child care available and you will need to know what these different kinds are so that you can choose one that best works for your needs. The five basic types of child care or daycare that are available are center-based or group care facilities, family daycare, in home care (nanny service), relative care and then no supplemental care (which means the parent provides the care themselves or the parents share the care of the child.) How do I recognize a good daycare? Well, there is no simple way to tell you how to find a good daycare. There are several different things you are going to want to look for and take into consideration when choosing a child care facility. For example, you should look into what type of provider training they have, their group size and child/staff ratio, the safety of the facility, cleanliness, parent/provider communication, health and nutrition, partnerships with other agencies and safety. There may also be some specific things or special needs that your child has that you will need to take into consideration as well. Just be sure you know up front what all your needs are and then you will know what to ask about. There are also some other questions you may want to ask the provider or daycare center director such as whether or not the staff has first aid training, what your child will be doing all day in their care, how they handle a problem or situation and whether or not you are allowed to make surprise visits to the facility.
