Whether you are taking care of your little brother while your parents are out or doing babysitting as a part time job, you can benefit from the tips here and be a caring and responsible babysitter.
1. You need to be in good health. If you are not in good health, you should not take a babysitting job. Babies and young children are more susceptible to disease and even a cold can spread and cause problems with the child.
2. You must be both dependable and responsible. If you say you are going to do something, it is very important to follow through and do it. If you say you will be somewhere, you need to be there. You are responsible for this child’s life, safety and well being so it is important that you are dependable.
3. You should love children. Children – even small children- tend to know when they are liked or not. If you do not have a genuine love and care for the child, they will sense it and know. A great babysitter is one that loves and cares for small children.
4. Remember to be mature. You need to set a good example for the child and also to be dependable should there be an emergency. In the event that something did occur, the parents need to know that you are able to handle the situation and that their child will be safe with you.
5. You should have good manners and be polite. This is not only to the parents but also around the child. You should always show a good attitude and proper manners. You are an authority figure and a role model to the child.
6. You should also look out for safety at all times and be able to somewhat predict hazardous situations before they occur so that they may be prevented. You should be alert at all times and be able to protect the children from danger.
7. You should also know something about children of the age bracket you are to be babysitting for. It’s important that as a successful babysitter, you understand the child that you are caring for.
